This year’s theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment" calls for action to unlock equal rights, power, and opportunities for everyone, focusing on empowering the next generation—particularly young women and adolescent girls—as catalysts for lasting change. The 2025 IGEM International Women’s Day (IWD) Awards promote equality and diversity in the disaster management sector. Open to practitioners, researchers, and volunteers, the awards recognise those who champion change and demonstrate excellence.

Award categories

The awards recognise outstanding contributions in the following categories:

  • Champion of Change 

  • Excellence in Disaster Management – Practitioner

  • Excellence in Disaster Management – Research

Nominations close Friday 21 February 2025.

Winners will be announced on International Women’s Day, Friday 7 March 2025. Stay tuned to our website and social media channels for updates and announcements.

Paragraph Types

We are excited to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations in the disaster management sector. Follow these steps to nominate someone for the 2025 IGEM International Women’s Day Awards:

Champion of Change

  • Advocated for diversity and inclusion 

  • Demonstrated excellence in the sector 

  • Shown leadership as an inspirational role model

  • Individuals who have had a significant impact in changing workplace culture and mindset to empower women and men to advance gender equality

Excellence in Disaster Management – Practitioner

  • Showed a tangible commitment to improving the delivery of disaster management practices 

  • Introduced innovative or inclusive practices which contributed toward continuous improvement for the community and the sector

  • Demonstrated disaster management excellence

Excellence in Disaster Management – Research

  • Influenced the development of a learning culture

  • Championed research and engagement within the sector

  • Showed a tangible commitment to improving the delivery of disaster management practices

Complete the nomination form. Make sure to submit your nomination by the deadline: Friday 21 February 2025.

Confirmation: After submitting the nomination, you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of the nomination.

Review process: All nominations will be reviewed by the Executive Leadership Team. The review process will assess the nominations based on the criteria.
