What is Rig​ht to Information?

The Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act), is the Queensland Government's approach to giving the community greater access to information. The Queensland Government has made a commitment t​​o provide access to information held by the Government, unless on balance it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information.

How do I access information?

Queensland Police Services process Right to Information requests for the Office of the IGEM.

Publication scheme

Our publication scheme describes and categorises information that is routinely available from the Office of the IGEM. 

All information and documents accessible via the publication scheme are provided free of charge except where otherwise stipulated.

Disclosure log

​​​​​A disclosure log provides details of access applications made to an agency under the Right to Information Act 2009 including a summary of documents that are available and considered to be of interest to the wider public. Under the Act, information of a sensitive nature such as personal details, are removed from the documents prior to their release.

Apply for information

The Office of the IGEM holds a wide range of information that relates to our review, audit, assurance and administrative responsibilities and our relationships with other government agencies and professional organisations.

The Office of the IGEM maintains a database of selected agencies and persons with whom communication and engagement activities are undertaken. This database is held securely by the Office of the IGEM.

You can make a Right to Information (RTI) application for information the Office may hold. If you are seeking access to your own personal information, you can apply under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act).

If you are seeking access to non-personal information not available in our Publication Scheme or Disclosure Log, you should apply under the
Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act).

Under the RTI and IP Acts, you can only apply to access or amend documents. These processes cannot be used to ask for general information or for answers to your questions.

Amending your personal information

You may apply to amend documents containing personal information you believe to be inaccurate, misleading, out of date or incomplete. To apply to amend your personal information, download and complete the Information Privacy Personal Information Amendment Application. There is no application fee, but you will need to provide evidence of your identity (e.g. a certified copy of your driver licence).

Privacy

The Office of the Inspector-General of Emergency Management is subject to the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) which is designed to protect all forms of personal information from being lost, misused or inappropriately modified or disclosed.

Gifts and benefits register

​​​​​​All items or gifts over $150 received by the Queensland Inspector General of Emergency Management or its employees are recorded on a quarterly Gifts and Benefits Register.

Public interest disclosure 

​​​The Office of the IGEM has a commitment to ensuring the highest level of ethics in our organisation and support public interest disclosure. Public interest disclosures are the disclosure of information specified in the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010 and made to an appropriate public sector entity with responsibility or power to take appropriate action about the information disclosed or to provide an appropriate remedy.
